Welcome
Welcome to the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa. We are located on the campus of the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City. We are Iowa’s only comprehensive pediatric academic medical center and a national leader in pediatric medicine.
Our mission is to provide outstanding care to the children of Iowa and beyond. We seek to achieve this mission by being a leader in state-of-the-art clinical care to children, performing cutting-edge research to find new treatments and cures for childhood illnesses, and educating the next generation of pediatric health care providers.
The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We value and respect all cultures, perspectives, and experiences. We aim to recruit and retain a diverse staff that is reflective of our community, as well as enhance a welcoming environment for our patients. Read our full mission statement.
Many of our faculty are leaders in their fields and are members of prestigious national and international organizations, including the Society for Pediatric Research, the American Pediatric Society, the American Board of Pediatrics, and the Institute of Medicine, among others. Our department currently includes just over 200 faculty, 50 residents, 2 chief residents, and 33 specialty trainees. Our University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is driving the growth and expansion of our programs and will ensure our commitment to excellence.
